FSU hosted their counselor call to give context to today's Early Action (EA) decisions (this round was for in-state students only). Decisions will be released later this afternoon (historically around 4PM CT, but definitely after school).
FSU had a 28% increase in EA applications, for a total of 22,000 EA applicants. 8,600 Florida students will be admitted today - a 39% admit rate for this round. Quite similarly, they deferred 7,000 students – a 31% deferral rate.
Below are the profiles of admitted students. (Please remember that GPAs are core recalculated GPAs, FSU's preferred methodology – this is NOT the GPA listed on your student’s transcript!)

75% of admitted students had all A/B grades.
63% had advanced math on their transcript.
900 Students who will have AA before attending have been accepted.
FSU has deferred 7,000 Students today. Repeat after me, “A deferral is NOT a denial.” These are talented students that FSU needs more information from before making a decision.

If students are deferred from EA today, they must complete a continued interest form by Jan 10th, with the specific pathways for which they are interested in being considered. I am available to assist students with deferral pathway decisions.
Merit Scholarships will also be announced today.
- VIRES Scholarship – $4,000/year. Requires both a 4.0+ FSU Recalculated GPA AND a Composite Score of either 30 (ACT) or 1360 (SAT)
- New this year is the IB Diploma Scholarship - $1,000 per year, stackable with other scholarships (including VIRES).
Honors decisions will also be released on February 15th. Students must have applied to Honors by December 1st. The housing contract opens on Feb 21st, 2024.
